This coming weekend, August 24th & 25th, the Hobart Doll Club will be holding their annual doll show. I’ve been attending this event for more years than I’ve been writing this blog. I can’t remember the first one I went to but I remember that I was pretty new to Tasmania and had to find out where the venue was. This was when the show was held at the Hellenic Hall in North Hobart but for the past couple of years, it has been in the Grandstand Pavilion at the Royal Hobart Showgrounds. This year the theme is “A Day at the Races”. Naomi and I hope to attend on Sunday so that we can visit the markets in the adjacent hall afterwards.
For any local readers planning to attend here is a link to the Hobart Doll Club with more information. They also have a Facebook Page and an Instagram account.
I hope to take pictures of the competition entries and stalls and write a post as I do every year. We nearly always come home with something interesting or meet some interesting people there.
Here are a few photos of dolls from previous years.

As well as the porcelain and cloth doll competition entries there will be stalls and a raffle to support Cystic Fibrosis the club’s chosen charity. The Hobart Dolls Hospital will be holding a clinic for injured dolls and teddies and they hope to be able to do some on the spot surgery as well as admitting patients for further treatment.
I wonder if you’ll find any treasure at the stalls! Looking forward to seeing photos. I’d be like a kid in a sweet shop.

I still occasionally help people restring dolls, put fresh wigs on them, and generally give them a good cleaning. I don’t do eyes. Never got the hang of it, but I’m a great restringer.

I have two or three that need doing. Wish you lived close enough to teach me.

Wouldn’t it be awesome if they had a “fix it” booth..at a doll show?

I am hoping I can get my teddy’s leg fixed back on. Sick of seeing him broken. Also hoping to find a nice old Teddy or other vintage soft toy bargain like in previous years or treasure at the market. Fingers crossed.
