This is fascinating information. I had also heard the New Zealand Sindy stories and believed that Naomi’s Sindy was a New Zealand issue but we’ll have to take another look at her based on your information. I hope that our Sindy collecting readers will enjoy learning more about her.

People often think that Sindy was only manufactured in England until 1966. But that’s just not true.

Last week I had the good fortune to find a vintage Sindy doll at my local op shop.  She has the early, hollow plastic legs, is marked Made in Hong Kong on the back and has the small, hard, wobbly head.  I posted photos of her to a Facebook group, and was greeted with the comment, ‘She looks like the New Zealand doll.’  Huh?  Why’s that? To me, her head is very much like my Australian Mary Poppins Sindy doll, except MP has the very long dark hair (see here, here and here).  And so I did some Googling, and found a website stating that dolls like my latest find were made in New Zealand in the late 1960’s from left over parts.  This doesn’t quite ring true to me, so…
