Fashion Doll Friday: Sindy in Undie World c1963


Today’s Friday Girl is Sindy but not the Sindy I had hoped to show you. Some weeks ago I pre-ordered one of the new playline Sindy’s. I had no idea when she would be available or how long I’d have to wait. Yesterday I got a notification that I had a parcel to pick up at the shop and got a bit excited. “Maybe it’s Sindy.” I thought. I decided to hold off doing my Friday post till I had picked up the package.

Well, I went to the shop and was handed a flat envelope. Definitely not Sindy. So now at 2:30pm I’m substituting one of my MIE Sindy’s wearing her 1963 underwear set. This outfit was last photographed back in about 2014. It is pretty fragile and I don’t like to handle it much. I do also have the little girdle that goes with this outfit but I don’t think I have ever put it on a doll. To be honest, when I was a child, I didn’t even know what it was. I thought maybe it was some kind of head band.

I was born in England in 1957 and lived there until our family came to Australia in 1966. I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, where I met and married my husband, David. We came together over a mutual love of trains. Both of us worked for the railways for many years, his job was with Australian National Railways, while I spent 12 years working for the STA, later TransAdelaide the Adelaide city transit system. After leaving that job I worked in hospitality until 2008. We moved to Tasmania in 2002 to live in the beautiful Huon Valley. In 2015 David became ill and passed away in October of that year. I currently co-write two blogs on WordPress.com with my sister Naomi. Our doll blog "Dolls, Dolls, Dolls", and "Our Other Blog" which is about everything else but with a focus on photographs and places in Tasmania. In November 2019 I began a new life in the house that Naomi and I intend to make our retirement home at Sisters Beach in Tasmania's northwest. Currently we have five pets between us. Naomi's two dogs Toby and Teddy and cats, Tigerwoods and Panther and my cat Polly. My dog Cindy passed away aged 16 in April 2022.

    • I know mum and my aunt used to wear them. I remember mum getting me to try one on when I was around 11 or so. I refused to wear it although when I was older I did wear panty girdles occasionally. Modern shapewear is much nicer although I don’t wear that now either.

  4. She is a lovely doll and the outfit is lovely. I only have the nightshirt part of it. My mum gave me a newspaper article about ‘Staid Sindy v Busty Barbie this week. There were pictures of early Sindy, Hasbro Sindy and Barbie. The so called early Sindy they had pictured was Vicki, Sindy ‘s friend. You’d think they would make sure they got their facts right before publication!
